Reasoning for title: On Tuesday night, I went for a lovely dinner with my boyfriend for our 6 month anniversary. He got keyhole surgery and now has his right arm in a sling. For 3 more weeks :( So this is dedicated to him. Not the point of the post. But the fact that I had the best time on Tuesday and am still a smitten kitten.
So.. After the meal at the Morrison Hotel, we went out for the best gelati ever in the land. It’s on Racecourse Rd (I was there even though I try to stay away from the Ascotians as much as possible) and it is called Milany. Tatiana Grigorieva owns it. It is the tastiest gelati ever (I recommend the Turkish Delight).
Anyway, enough about food…
My boyfriend and I were talking about random things (including his dislike for blunt fringes *sigh*) and it got me thinking…
Girls like things boys don’t. I have thought about this before, obviously, and I know it seems like a simple concept but it’s not, really.
Just say you’re out shopping and you find ‘the perfect dress’. It’s a floral-patterned dress with a square-neckline and a heart-shape cutout at the back. (Not my perfect dress, but I do own one and I love it)
When you wear it.. a guy could be thinking all kinds of things:
‘That neckline makes her look manish’
‘The floral pattern is tacky’
‘It’s not the right cut for her…’
Now all of these things would probably only be said by a gay man, or one of those ‘I’m not gay, I’m Metro’ type lads.
The straight ones will be thinking either:
‘Yes’
or
‘No’
or
‘Dude, I can see her bra. Score’
So why do we make so much effort?
It’s the continual battle of:
Guy: ‘I don’t understand the point of high heels… why bother?’
Girl: ‘We do it for you’
We don’t wear these things because they are comfortable. Mind you, many can be (Dresses, not heels. They are pretty but mean). But what about the sweetheart neckline? It is gorgeous but if you don’t have the goods to hold it up you are either adjusting yourself all night or wearing those fantastic chicken fillets.. and still adjusting yourselves everynight.
So boys, please appreciate all the effort we go to. Not only do we have to think about our dresses being cute… but also about our hair being done, make up, wearing good shoes, practical-but-not-really-just-pretty-and-matches-the-outfit bag and the annoying but necessary thought of ‘Oh Lord did I shave?’
It’s a lot to process, I know. But we think about it everyday.
So next time you’re out with a girl, compliment her bag, or shoes, or hair, or make up, or the fact that you appreciate her shaven legs (if they are, indeed, silky smooth). There are straight ways to do this. All you have to do is add a “thing” to every item.
“I like your bag/purse thing”
“I like your shoe-type things…”
“I like this thing” *Point*
I hope this has been a helpful guide for the boys. Follow it and you will have success.
